2001 was another successful year for Ann’s art business. Several new paintings and prints, art workshops locally and in Florida and a one-woman show of her paintings in an Asheville Gallery kept Ann (and Ken) busy through the year. However, there was time for play and here are some photos of visits with family and friends and our trip to China.
Ann & Ken with sons Brian, Kevin and Eric Ann was surprised for her 60th birthday party

"So, you're the one". Yep, Ken did it with some help from Ann's sister, Luci. Tommy and Teresa Liner were there.

The boys and their girl friends came in too. The Matheson's joined in the celebration.

The Valenti's came up from Taylor's, SC Girl friends Lynne and Eunice.

She never stopped laughing. Even when cutting the cake. Dining al fresco with the gang at home.

In the Forbidden City. The Temple of Heaven, Beijing. All wood and no nails or bolts in this 1400's structure.

You can tell which one is the warrior. At the Park of the Ming Tombs, Beijing. A Cloissene factory in Beijing.

We had the opportunity to meet with a Chinese family. The Great Wall.

We walked about a mile on the Great Wall……downhill. The Terra Cotta Warriors in Xi'an. This is only one of four buildings that cover the "unearthed army".

Most were actually destroyed during early revolutions (see the trench area in the back) and recently restored. These stand 6 to 7 feet tall. Many bodies are the same , but each head is different; about 2,000 years old.

Even horses with carts and chariots. The 3 Gorges area on the Yangtze River. Industries along the River cause heavy air pollution.

The 3 Gorges Dam project on the Yangtze River. World's largest construction project. This is the upstream face of the Dam; 600 feet high. Height of the River will rise about 550 feet.

The very modern city of Shanghai. A downtown shopping area in the city of Chong Qing. Used to be called Chung Ching. Dress is very contemporary. No more Mao jackets.

A panda at the Chong Qing Zoo. Tunnel Mountain Park in Guilin.

Eroded limestone mountains in Guilin, along the Li River. How about a small glass of "snake wine"? Not bad; had a little "bite" to it.

Hong Kong from our hotel room. Hong Kong at night.

In the New Territories (suburbs of Hong Kong and Kowloon). Modern high-rise apartments contrast with the "boat houses". At the old Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon.
